Structurally speaking, there is not a whole lot that can be done to lighten it up, significantly. Where the weight reductions will come from is more modern electronics and batteries. As it was originally flown, it had 13 nicad/nimh batteries, one of which was 18 cells (the retracts are electric).   It also had four receivers. Im looking at being able to fly it with 7 Li-ion batteries. Two for the main fuselage rc stuff, one per outer wing rc, two small ones for smoke pumps and a single 5cell one for the retract. I’ll also likely use ignition BEC’s eliminating four more batteries. This should be a pound or two in weight savings. Going to standard sized HV brushless servo’s also saves 1.5 oz per servo (theres eleven of them on just the fligh controls).   If i remove on servo from each flight control (i can get one servo that has double of what both 1/4 scale servo’s had combined) that saves another pound. The zinger four blade props were also heavy. Carbon four blade ones should be a wee bit lighter each. There wont be any substantial savings, but there will be some.   Granted, the thing flew fine at whatever weight it was at originally. This B-29 is the Second 20’ one and the Third that Mac had.
