How do you get them in this large format, I was struggling and compressing to get them under 125KB each?

I use Gimp Ralf, thats a very good freeware photoshop program with a lot of functions.

HERE

First I reduce the photo to 1024x768 and then export to Jpeg. In the Jpeg export window you can set the slider to the requested stored size in Kb.
