Terry,

The worst thing you can do while learning how to build and fly is to get in over your head. We all dream of that scale plane we want to fly but there is a process that we all have to go through to be sucressful.IMO I think I would put the P-51 on your shelf and hold off on flying that until you can successfully fly a intermediate trainer. All to often people try to fly a advanced Warbirds and crash, get discouraged and hang a terrific hobby up. You also will gain valuable building experience to be successful to build. It is all your decision, just thought I would offer my 2 cents worth.

 Cheers,
  Patrick

I'm assuming you are in a club.  If not, you should locate one and join.  Going it alone is difficult.  Are there any builders in the club?  Hook up with them and see what they are building.  See if they will let you come by and observe a building session, and pick their brains as well.

Let me know if I can help

Thanks for the advice guys. I do belong to a club, there are several builders, I know of at least 1 who builds and competes in scale completions, I have spoken with him about the possibility of a visit but nothing set in stone yet.
