Usually I start the building sequence with the wing, but this time, since all the stock wood has not arrived, I will start with tail surfaces, flaps and ailerons.

Flaps: I will use the same platform that we had 10 years ago when I offered the weight reduction kit for the SisT kit.
A .010 (0,25mm) fliteskin outer skin and very thin plywood for the inside wing with spar and ribs.



CA the ribs to the upper skin, making sure I have a right hand and a left hand.


Add a few balsa blocks for anchoring the Robart hinge points,

The challenging part came when I tried to bend the front to conform to the curvature of the rib . I tried hot water and ammonia and the ply became a bit softer, but still was hard to keep a straight line parallel to the flap L.E. so a 1/8x1/8 stringer had to be added to support the edge of the upper skin glued to the bottom skin.

Continuing with the build, elevators are next.
I wanted to offer really scale elevators that the average builder can build with the minimum of fiddling  and minimum weight.
The method I chose is to laser cut the balsa spar in a 3 layer lamination, slots for the ribs and the cross section of the spar will determine the shape of the elevator tip.
Here we go:



The sloted spar determines the right spacing of the ribes.
The upper and bottom skins are very thin ply and are joined with tape and the T.E.


The skins are positioned on the ribs and spars:

Once in place I added the other 2 layers of the spar. I also think we can build the spar first and add the ribs and skins afterward.
I also added the tips and counter balance, sanded them to shape to conform with the spar.

T.E is just over 2 mm. thick


The Horizonal Stab will follow.

Started building the Horizontal stab, I had to revise the files and send for a new batch of laser cut parts, thanks Bob for your fast service.

The framing of the HS takes a few minutes once the parts are sorted out:


I used the hardwood landing gear mount as straight edge to keep the rear spar in check.  Notice I am not using plans as the HS12 L.E. jig keeps the alignment and separation correctly. The joy of CAD and laser cut!


Note HS6 extends slightly behind HS10 spar. Do NOT trim off.
