It looks great, but the BUSA kits nose is way too long.

True, and you pretty much have to go with a custom made item if you want a spinner. I built one of these about 20 years ago. The Kit is a set of compromises that lands mostly on the sport scale side of the equation. As it is, one will want to use the heaviest engine that will fit under the cowl. I had an Irvine .72 on mine. Way more power than needed but it helped with the balance. My recent purchase is an updated version with plans copyrighted in the 90's. So far, the main difference I have seen is that that it uses independent aileron servos instead of a pushrod as in my first Bristol. Mine still has sheet balsa tail surfaces. I've seen builds where people went with a built up tail. If you could save an ounce on the tail it would make a big difference with this plane but I don't recall how much the built up tail actually helped. All that being said it is a nice flying airplane and I enjoyed it enough to grab a second one.

So did I, here at Old Rhinebeck in 2006 ,and the nose was also too long!
Mine was powered with a Quadra-41.

Congrats on the great result. I also like to make my own paint masks as I feel it adds to feeling of involvement with the build process.

Would you be able to show us some closer details of the custom spinner you had made? It sets the model off nicely and it would be interesting to see how the spinner fits together and what parts it has?

Thanks

Al

Here you go Al - hope this helps!

It comes with a 3mm wrench and one extra screw.  It is a 2-piece affair, held together by two screws.  Graham machined the screw heads down a bit.

The two parts have registered screw holes, so alignment ought to be the same each time:

Here are the back sides:

They fit together pretty well:

And it weighs 202 grams or 7.13 ounces

He does good work that's for sure.

Just curious though, did you have to cut the prop slots or did you tell him what prop and he cut them?

He cut the slots.  Told him the prop and engine, he did the rest.
