I'm a people person. That's the best way to describe me. Having said that my biggest take away from sa the hobby is the fine people I've met!
While I really do enjoy research of a specific plane its the people I enjoy the most.

Amen, I can think of prolly 50 people that I gotta hug when we meet. Theres prolly a couple hundred I know and am glad to get together with but theres family that develops over the years and meets. That's what it's all about!

I have to say that although I very much love all aspects of choosing, researching, building and detailing a new project. my favorite part of this hobby is restoring scale airplanes. Especially ones that have been built or partially built and never flown. My favorite so far was a 1/3 scale BUSA Stearman that was built and hung from a ceiling for over 10 years. It was a complete strip down and rebuild. I Loved it! and it turned into a beautiful airplane that flies very nicely.

Living in the Northeastern United States where we can have many months of cold weather, this time of the year supports my desire to build something. Knowing that flying is, for me, not enjoyable in the cold weather, this climate provides the time to dive into a project fully. It I didn't build, I would have little interaction with the hobby during this time of the year.
I also enjoy learning about the full scale version of the model I am building and having a site like this to support the project is so helpful, fun, and rewarding.

For me it's probably the research first closely followed by the building. In fact, I consider the two to be the same. Flying? I use to need it like a ride on the Harley but today I can take it or leave it.
With a military career the research and building was the only aspect that didn't change constantly as I relocated hither and yon. I could take those with me but not so a flying site or the friends I made at the last place or even some models at times.
Once retired from the military I found myself in the greater DC area. Lots of clubs to be sure but everything is at least a half hour drive with the potential of being three or more. When my last club was thrown under the bus I walked away from my last club and AMA flying sites. That was 30 years ago give or take. Since then it's build much, fly little and occasionally sell one. I have a completed BUSA Citabria Pro that's pushing 30 years and never left the ground. The engine, Enya 1.20 four stroke has been broke in and taxied but that's it.
But I also do boats and a lazy afternoon at a pond with a good sail boat is as good as flying any day. And with a boat I can sit in a chair and sip a beer. :)

I've had glow, avgas and jet fuel in my life since a very early age! Oh as well as a few electrons being consumed in recent years too! I enjoy competition and can still compete at a high level. I enjoy the fellowship almost as much and I suspect as I mature I will enjoy the fellowship more and more.
And because of Mike's vision to create RCSB, I want to add it as an enjoyable part of the hobby as well!

Over the years I go back and forth from periods of building to periods of flying. Rarely did the two occur at the same time.
During lock-down I find ordering stuff to be a sickness in itself. If I ordered 10 things from 10 vendors it became a contest to see in what order they arrived.
