Hi Everyone,

I have say any place thats not so cold and wind blowing less than 15 mph, my best field to fly off from has to be Mac Hodges (Hodges Hobbies) 1600 feet X 400 feet well kept grass field.

 Looking Up !!!!!!!

You can't beat a good grass field. My club field is asphalt with a not so manicured grass strip behind it. Maybe that is why I travel so much to fly on good grass strips.

My town has a small aspahlt runway that almost never gets used. Our club gets to fly off it and we have a big area for taxing around or ground testing.

We have 3 asphahlt runways forming "triangle" for all wind directions, and grass mowed, but not "golf course" quality around the runways and in the centre allowing for grass operation if needed.

Does anyone land on stone? Our grass field is right next to a cemetary. We always have spectators but they usually don't say much. I forgot the power lines, on a hot August day we change the pattern to avoid the extra RF because of all the a/c running.   Lanny    Khelsea

We are very lucky in Australia (State of Tasmania) as we have a big grass strip, and a huge pits area with parking behind a big Club House with all the facilities you would ever want. Added to that we have a view of the Western Tiers (Mountains) to die for... even on an overcast day! Noise? Not a problem. No neighbours for 5 kms!

Here is a shot of just a part of the area with my 1/3 Stearman/Moki 215 radial power. CB is near the flight line with his 1/3 Moki powered Stearman!

IMHO you just can't beat a good, well maintained grass strip.

Your'e welcome anytime, Merlyn!!
