I was born and raised in FW and still live there. I ran across a site dedicated to the history of FW and area. I was amazed to see pics of the world's first Helium plant that supplied the gas to the US Army and Navy dirigibles. FW has quite a few firsts and other significant contributions in the world of aviation, but even I was not aware of this one. I suspect that most folks would have said that the only fill, in that time frame for such vehicles, was hydrogen. Apparently not the case.
What's also interesting is that is was later the site of the CAA Southwest Regional offices. Both my parents worked there from the 50's till 1981.
A couple of pics and a short history of the plant and later usage by the CAA (now FAA). The FAA used the buildings till they became too old and worn out. It's currently still standing and used for SWAT training. But, likely to be torn down one day fairly soon.
