One more hint.  The airplane I have in mind is a unique variant, so one specific airplane.  There were similar variants before and after, but this one had a very special role to play.

- Two wings
- Two propellers
- A number of notable 'firsts'
- Fabric covered
- definitely entered military service and was flown by military pilots.
- Name the airplane and all of the 'firsts' for full credit :-)
- The airplane I have in mind is a unique variant, so one specific airplane.
- There were similar variants before and after, but this one had a very special role to play.

One more hint:

- the two props were pushers
- a couple of the guesses have been very warm, but not quite on the money

Gary

Ding Ding Ding!

1909 Wright Military Flyer

A demonstration was held with the Army in 1908 using a Model A which crashed.  The passenger/observer Lt. Thomas Selfridge was killed.  That was the first fatality in a powered airplane.  Orville was severely injured, but survived.

The 1909 Wright Military Flyer was different from the Model A.  It was in fact the first aircraft accepted in to the inventory of *any* military.

Over to you Glenn.
