Yes, Roland D.VIa with the Mercedes engine and Roland D.VIb with the Benz engine. I recently learned that the fuselage formers in the Lockheed Vega were constructed in the same manner. There is no margin for error. Each laminating strip must be cut to a precise length.

I didn’t realize it had that unique construction method. But not surprised.
I figured it came from the Albatross DNA as it had the unique molded fuse.

The fuselage was a Klinkerrumpf (clincker built like on a boat). This differed from any of the plywood skinned aircraft of the time. It is thought that plywood shortages led them to incorporate this type of skin. It also meant that they could add the strakes directly to the fuselage and not have to mould plywood on a form first.

Yes, very interesting airplane and a good choice Glenn.
Here are your next clues: - Originally designed as a day fighter
- Looking for the night fighter variant, which featured:
- Oblique-firing weapons
- Nose mounted radar
- Clear panels on the underside of the nose, allowing pilot to see down and below
