Faster than the Zero. Surprisingly good maneuverability due in part to the combat flaps that were automatically extended
,making for a tighter turning radius. Could compete against the best Allied fighters.

Good choice Paul.  Believe it or not there are four surviving examples, three in the USA and one in Japan.

Also subject of at least one build thread here on RCSB, right?

Next clues:
  • Single engine
  • Low wing monoplane
  • Crew of one or two
  • Used for “Bed Check Charlie” raids

Paul's on FIRE!!!

Yes, Yakolev Yak-18 Max

This one is in North Korean markings.  Probably best known to US troops in the Bed Check Charlie role.  Also known as "Washing Machine Charlie", both terms were used for multiple aircraft used in these nightime nuisance raids in both Korea and Vietnam.

Over to you Paul.

BTW, is someone keeping up with adding these to the first page?

Gary

Yes, I suppose bed check charlie + monoplane didn't leave too many options :-)

The Polikarpov Po-2 was also used for this, but was a biplane.

Looks like it is only the three of us playing, wish more would play.
