I don't think the Avia has ailerons on the lower wings.

Man, that was a tough one.  For me anyway :-)  Biplanes aren't really my thing.

Almost eliminated the Avia 534 since it wasn't clear whether the very first prototype used a radial.  But, everything else fit.  Except maybe the ailerons.  All the pictures and drawings I've seen that showed the ailerons looks like only the upper wing had them.  Maybe different versions?

ahh, maybe it's time to update your set of Funk 'n Wagnalls...  Or maybe they meant left and right wings!

All the other clues definitely fit.  That was a good one.

  • Low wing monoplane
  • Designed during WWII

Perhaps my book is referring to the 1st prototype the 534/1 The one with the radial, and they were subsequently eliminated on later versions? Sorry, I wasn't trying to mislead, ( at least not by much ).

Oh, I have NEVER found references for old airplanes conflicting or wrong...   :-)

Every bit of research I've done on old airplanes has turned up tons of errors and conflicting information.

The Avia looks a lot like a Hawker Fury with an enclosed cockpit -just look at that fin and rudder.
I also looked at it but I didn't think it f
