Gary , was that a sort of tongue in cheek attempt at humor,(the test of googling skills) ? I just put in U.S.aircraft removed from combat, and Voila there it was as the opening sentence in the wicki page for the F105.

Yes, it was a little bit tongue-in-cheek since I figured a Google search or two would give you the answer :-)

Not sure about the Junkers Ju 88 -- more than 15,000 were built, but only a minority of the variants had radial engines (mostly BMW 801 like the Fw 190).  Most were built with in-line engines (mostly DB 60X and Jumo 21X) with annular radiators.  Made them look like radials, but they weren't.

Ironically, one of the few surviving Ju 88s (RAF Museum Hendon) has the BMW 801s:

I suppose it's time for a few more clue's .

1 - Twin engine
 2 - Low wing
 3 - over 9000 built
 4 - Radial engines
5 - used by the military of 40 or more countries.
 6 - Continuously produced for 32 years
 7 - 48 military variants ( by my count)
