Phil,
You are the winner! Sorry, my reply was greater than 24 hours but family and flying on a lovely after noon took me away from this contraption.
I always thought it was a really speedy looking airplane with the upturned wingtips. Stability and unreliable engine doomed the plane. That V12 must have sounded sweet!

Sparky, I'm going to pass it back to you.  I originally just posted the Curtiss SOC Seagull, and when I went back to edit including the Curtiss SO3C Seamew version, and went back and noticed that we had posted Curtiss SO3C Seamew  at the same time.  And then you courteously deleted yours.  Which I appreciate.  I think this is a great way of learning some of the not so much praised aircraft, and enjoy searching for the clues.  Go ahead its yours...

Just to clarify. I had posted the  SOC Seamew  guess and saw that Phil had edited his original guess to include the Seamew, so I deleted my guess, as he technically beat me to it by a few minutes. So as far as I'm concerned I think Phil should post the next quiz question.
