No on the Liberator, but close enough on the Laister-Kauffman CG-10a the production version and since they were all canceled shortly after the end of the war and there was only 5 actually produced while all those on the production line were scraped.  What I find interesting on them is that they were made almost entirely out of wood, and yet could be snatched from the ground fully loaded with a deuce and a half truck into the air.

I figured it was some sort of assault glider but the clues didn't make sense to me as I was thinking you were looking for a Jap glider.
I always miss the answer on Jeopardy too!

The clue that mentioned "it was considered a stealthy solution for the invasion of Japan" was what steered me to the answer.

O.K. Time for a few more "specific" clue's

1- single engine
 2 - 3 crew
 3 - monoplane
 4 - radial engine
 5 - light bomber
6 - one variant set a world record that may still stand today.
7 - While not considered a major combat aircraft, it contributed to the design principles of a much used and well
      known aircraft
8 - was considered obsolete by the start of ww2
9 - however it was used with some success in the Middle East, East Africa & Egypt.

That sounds a lot like a Vickers Wellesley?
