You guys are getting close!
1. Thousands built
2. Conventional Configuration
3. Had a crew of one sometimes more
4. Even the last of many versions were considered underpowered.
5. There are two types of landing gear this one is conventional
6. Initially only had one gun installed
7. Well liked by its crew
8. Of the many thousands built only a handful maybe less than 50 were flown by 7 other countries.
9. The designer thought the original design could serve as a light transport and courier duties on the front line...that's in addition to its original purpose.
10. The vast majority of the planes were produced with retractable U/C. However some were produced with fixed gear (to reduce the need for precious war materials) since the original purpose of this airplanes design wouldn't be significantly detract from its first role it was designed for.
11.Pilots thought it was a little nose heavy so a fuel tank was fitted behind the pilot. In the field it was removed since it wasn't armored.
12. Flight trials said that it "wasn't inferior to other planes in service" by that country.
13. Effort was made for better parts fitment, smoother joints etc as an effort to reduce drag.
14. Performance of later variants was similar to the ME-109, I dont which ME-109 it was compared to.
15. Used ostensibly in WW2
16. It eventually had a cannon firing through the prop hub as well as machine guns installed
17. Single engine
18. Jerry Bates has NOT done plans for this airplane, given its war record I'm kind of surprised it hasn't been done.
19. Did I mention WW2?
20. I couldn't find any reference to this airplane in any thread on RCSB
21. NJ had the right country of origin......
22. Russian design.
23. Initially designed as a trainer but was developed into a very respectable fighter.
24. Not a LAGG
25. Not a MIG

I'm about out of Russian aircraft. There's the Yak series (1,3,7,9), but I'm not aware of any of them being either under-powered, or designed as trainers - and having fixed or retract gear.

Yakovlev Yak-7?
After all the other guesses there aren't many other WWII Russian fighters left.
