The Zeppelin D.I competed in the second fighter competition beginning in June 1918. On 3 July, the top wing tore off and killed Leutnant Wilhelm Reinhard of JGI.
An example was brought to McCook Field for evaluation after the war.
This was the world‘s first stressed-skin all metal fighter. It was designed by Dipl-Ing. Claude Dornier.
These are great clues. I haven’t put all the clues together but I’ll get it started by suggesting that it’s the Supermarine Seagull II powered by a Napier Lion.
