I was on the trip to Top Gun with Dave Boddington and the Vimy. we think it was 1998 ish. Edit; apparently it was 1993!
He crashed it when an laser engine stopped because someone did not tighten the glow plug............. A few sticks of balsa were purchased and it flew again in the contest.
As far as I know the model by Boddington has no vices and flies well. As did all Boddington's designs.
You can still buy the plan from
Dave was on a mission to correct the Smithsonian book of flight that had Charles Lindberg as the first to fly the Atlantic, He more or less built the Vimy just so that he could 'Mention' it!
Allcock and Brown crated and shipped the new aircraft to Newfoundland and flew back, it was completely devoid of markings.
When David presented the model for static at Top Gun it caused consternation for lack of Markings. Quote judges 'Not even a goddam post code'
