Last week I was told the process had begun. I suppose the overwhelming volume of FRIA applications expedited the process. There have been multiple contradictions... The JSC Manned Spacecraft Center AMA club field...located on the N~S radar range was permitted an altitude exception though they are directly in line with one of the runways at Houston's Ellington Field... This is going to get messy the further along it goes.

Yes. We are planning to meet with the Van Nuys Tower to see if we can get a letter from them in support of our FRIA application.  We are 3 miles almost directly in line with the runway.  One of our proposals will be to install a warning light or siren at the model field that the Tower can activate if they get complaints/reports from pilots.  Unfortunately, the field we fly out of is a public park open to anyone.  The only time our club has control of the field is when we pull a permit from LA Recs and Parks and hold an AMA sanctioned event.  Otherwise, we do not have any enforcement power for people following posted rules.  Being a public park, we also have the added challenge of other interests who would like to see the space the airfield occupies, used for other purposes ranging from intra-city wildlife space, equestrian use, and even pickle ball courts.  One proposal even wants to move our field to the wash basin of what was arguably the worst nuclear core meltdown in US history in 1959 and was covered up for something like 30 years.  It is still not widely known even by the half million people who live within a ten mile radius.

Or club, Charlevoix Area BUFFS received its FRIA. Our flying field is registered with AMA as Ironton International Airport LOL!
The property is privately owned by share holders but we have to cover property taxes and all up- keep.
We do not require RIDs. So if you're up our way  you're invited to fly with us.
