Hello All,

Quick back story. Into RC 30 years ago, built a plane (Sig Kadet Mark II) but life got in the way and never got the radio and never flew the plane. Am now retired and getting back into the hobby. Just building some FF now and I bought a Great Planes PT - Electric 40” WS I plan to build and fly. There is a club close to my home I will be joining in the spring. Long term goal is to scratch build. I do have one question, also bought an Sig Clipped Wing Cub 56” WS, I would like to convert this from gas to electric, is this possible, if so how difficult.

Respectfully,
clc58

Easy. There are differences but you'll find lots of help here. Electric is pretty user friendly. Is the Sig Cub guilt yet?

Clc58:

Firstly, welcome to the group. We are here to help out in any which way possible with your build project/s.

I believe p51a meant to ask if your Sig was already built, since it was only mentioned that you recently bought the Cub. There are lots of sales of various models in kit form & those already built.

Cheers,

Gent’s

No the Cub is not built yet, perhaps this summer or fall. I want to get some flying and more building experience before I take on the Cub. Thanks for the welcome and looking forward to future advice and help.

Regards,

The following is free advice and worth the price:
Computer flying is surprisingly helpful if you have a suitable and available computer. Flying and building experience is good. Probably best to begin with electric. Many e-powered RTFs are available. They fly well, are very robust and inexpensive. Some are truly ready to fly, others take a little assembly. Some are even very credible scale models. Start with an inexpensive high wing model. Many RTF's are equipped with internal gyro features that bring the plane back to straight and level flight if you get into trouble. Several of our club members have them. You mentioned a nearby club. Contact them. Some clubs have Club-Trainer-Planes available. Soon after you get started you'll develop specific interests. Have a blast!

Ordered Real Flight from Tower Hobby this past Friday, should get it sometime this week. Did go to the club I mentioned and talked to a couple of members and told me about Real Flight as well as club dues and joining AMA. As for registration with the FAA I am sure they will help me out with that as well. A RTF is something I should look into. The fellow I bought the Great Lakes PT-Electric off of from eBay lived only an hour and a half from me, so I went and picked it up, he too said to look at getting an RTF with SAFE mode. Thank you all for the advice and info. I can tell already I will learn a lot and receive good advice. Same as the reloading site when I started reloading for my rifles, lots of experienced helpful members.

Regards,
clc58

Received Real Flight today, not that easy but with practice and joining a club I’ll be just fine. Seeing the scale plane you gentlemen build must take a lot of flying experience. My goal is to gain the experience needed for the Clipped Wing Cub I bought on eBay. 56” WS, would that be 1/8 scale? Became a site supporter today.

56 inch wingspan, would that be 1/8 scale?

1/6 scale.   Clipped Wing Cub wingspan = 342".
