We don't seem to have many options over here with tray Tx's, and they seem to be pretty popular in Europe.

I think I'd like to go that route, but need at least 11 channels, preferrably 12.

I looked at the 14MZ, but I'm a JR guy, and the 14MZ has knobs for some of the channels, which I find to be the stupidist thing ever invented for transmitters. I couldn't force myself to buy the JR 12 channel for the same reason, but the 11 has zero knobs, so it's now in my garage.

All that being said, I'd still be interested in a Graupner (JR right?) 12 channel tray type that I could customize. I've seen little switches they install on the ends of the sticks, and they have sliders and different switch options, and and and and...

I want one. Where do I get one?

I use a Graupner / JR MC-22 equipped with Weatronic 2,4 module. This is a 12 ch radio.

Recently I installed two 3-position switches at the end of the sticks which is used for almost all additional functions.
The right switch controls the flaps with up, takeoff and landing available, while the left switch controls the towhook when flying towplanes.
Additional functions can be freely assigned to almost every switch you would like, and you add only the switches you want.
I have installed a safety switch that requires you to lift the switch before you can flip it. This controls the choke on the carb, making it impossible to accidentally bump the switch, thereby killing the engine. But it could also be set up for operating retracts and the like.

The MC-22 is quite an old design, but still very competitive due to powerfull easy to use software, which I believe is stock JR, but it?s being replaced at the moment by Graupner units with their own native 2,4 system called HOTT.

Futaba has several tray style radios available. FX-20, FX-30 and FX-40. The FX-30 is comparable to the Futaba FG-12 I guess, with the FX-40 being a tray version of the 14MZ.

Yes, those are very nice links. I really like the switches on your Tx sticks.

I have recently heard that the RF power requirements in Europe may vary from country to country, and is different from that in US.

Is it possible for me to get a tray radio like those in the links, for legal use in U.S.?

You can get switches like this for the Futaba offering also.

I believe europe has a limit of 100mW transmitting power, on the 2,4Ghz band, where the US has a higher limit, so my guess is that you won?t break any laws by using a european TX. But I?m not familiar with the rules in the US.

If you find a Graupner dealer in USA he may be able to import the TX for you, and maybe Futaba USA can also supply the model for the european market?

Started off with a 4 channel MRC in a Sureflite Cessna at 13 years old. Since than I use mostly Futaba then Aitronics and a JR 388. Futaba for my planes/jets/ heli's, Airtronics sailplanes (air), cars, boats ( sur) and the JR in sailplanes. Have to spread it around a little!
