Started with a Control Air reed.  Bought a proportional built by a friend and flew that for a few years.  Then migraged to a RS Systems for a while.  I had a friend who worked for the company.  Moved to Futaba in the 80's and have been flying them ever since.. Currently have a 9ZWII.  I'm waiting for Spectrum to come out with a retro for the 9Z..

I read the other day that JR produces the DX7 under license from Spektrum and that later this year JR will be producing their own version of the Spektrum system, most likely with additional channel capabilities.  Unfortunately I can't find where I read that

I have used Futaba radios all along my RC modeling carrier since late 80s but now with S Connie taking shape i am moving to Multiplex radio systems as they are built specifially for multi engine models.

I've used JR for the last 6 years. Thinking about switching to Multiplex...
...just waiting for these guys to get their product on the market.
The most exiting product I've seen in a very long time.

I anticipate Multplex will provide a solution however economics at the level of
radio we are discussing has never been a consideration at Multiplex. After all,
they implemented PCM long before it was mainstream then moved to include a
safe FM interop scheme with IPD.

Lumbajack's comment and link suggests competition will be fierce in the third
party market. As long as the transmitter's radio is module based it could very
well be a solution that makes economic sense.

The current excess capacity in the electronics assembly industry will drive this
strongly. Its not as if they have not had experience with SST for the last ten
years. Today, chipsets exist with imbedded SST. With SST being a general term.
What determines the applicability is what the actual frequency block being used
is...and there are many.

I look forward to being able to retain the functionality of my transmitter with the
safety of SST. Until that happens I feel the scale market place will have to wait
because the major manufacturers will race to dominate at the less expensive to
solve end. This with all the turbine and scale modelers screaming and yelling

Started with Kraft, then added a JR 7 channel, then picked up a Futaba and realized I needed to settle on one brand - at that time Kraft had closed shop and I decided to standardize on Futaba.  It amazes me what you can get for the money today - the kraft sport series that I saved for so long is far exceeded by moder radios at about 2/3 the cost.

Started with a Mattel galloping ghost single channel.  Flew Futaba (very happily) for many years then changed to JR because their earlier computer radios seemed to me to be easier to program.  Stuck with them ever since.

I can honestly say that in 30 years of flying RC I have only had one crash that I could say was due to 'radio failure', a 6 channel JR reciever went ape during a flight.  All the other crashes I take credit for! - John.

I started with a Heathkit, even built the servos as a part of that kit. I think it was a Kraft radio in a kit form but sold it before I got in the air. I got out of R/C for about 5 years and when I returned, I purchased an Sanwa or something in that order. I got out of R/C again rather quickly also being an Amateur radio hobbiest I had to choose where to spend the big bucks... Ham radio won out. About a decade later I got back into R/C because of illness and I wanted something to do while I sat at home convalescing and ham gear was way to expensive now. I purchased a Futaba because it was the right price and looked the coolest. That was about 1o years ago now. I am still using Futaba but I think if the J/R or Airtronics would have caught my eye that day I would be using their systems instead. I might try out the JR Spectrum stuff, not really sure as I have a large sum invested in the Futaba 14MZ. I can expand it to 28 proportional channels with two 8 channel multiplexers (1 to 8 channel mulitplexer, not MultiPlex Radio) that Futaba sells for $79 each. Imagine that many channels for your bomber and all of it's cool features! I have heard that Multiplex is designed for multi-engine, well the 14 MZ has considerable programming in it for up to 4 engines. It is a nice match to my B17's. (Talk about pilot overload!) My JR buddies keep trying to find fault in my 14MZ Futaba and I have had nothing but flawless use of the radio gear for over a year now and love it. I even sold my 9C because I just didn't use anything else. I kept an older 8U Futaba more out of nostalgia than for any other reason.
