Hello everybody!

I am completely new at forums in general and airplane builds. so excuse me if I am in the wrong place and don't sound to versed in these manners. I have been tasked with a work project that I need a little direction on.

A little background relevant to this project I have been tasked with. I work at a company that produces laser cutters. And I am the model maker/ artist. We want to laser cut some wood for a large Corsair model. If anybody can point me in the right direction to obtain the patterns for the build I would be very greatful. I don't mind if they cost either. So the interior pieces of the model is what I need. pictures will work and if you had the vector files themselves ready to cut, that would be even better!

either way we are going to scale the designs up to a 1/6th scale. If someone is willing to help me receive these files I would have no problem cutting some out for them aswell.

Any information helps.

Thanks,
            WalkerMcKeag

Hello Walker.

You are kind of treading on sensitive ground here - the designers are rightfully pretty careful about their designs.

Having said that, I doubt that any of them would give you CAD files, so you would have to purchase plans and trace them yourself.  And most of those are going to be larger scale - 20 and 25% scale.

Two places to start would be Nick Zirolli Plans and Meister Scale.  I would suggest that you talk to the owners and explain what you are doing and why, and offer to purchase the plans.  You can look for Brian Taylor plans too - sold by Traplet (they are supposed to have an outlet here in the US).

There are laser-cut kits for these already on the market, but at the larger scale than you are looking for.  Retractable landing gear, tail hooks and cockpit kits are available for those larger kits too.  Which begs the question - why go through all the work of cutting your own if one is already available, albeit at a larger scale?

Jeff,

Thank you for the reply.

I understand the idea of the designers not handing over files as someone could easily just copy them and make copies.

Thank you for the information on those designers, that is just the information I need.

The larger scale the better, I am not limited by size, and was actually looking for larger models.

also, I have no problem tracing the plans out myself to make CAD files, yet when I look at plans on the Internet I do not see specific pieces for cutting, it looks more like a general diagram. Am I mistaken?

The company I work for is fairly big in laser cutting. The reason we want to cut it ourselves is to show our customers what is possible with our laser products. And for this project specifically, I will be making a full tutorial.

On a side note; we also design, produce, and sell 3D printers.. and parts like cowls and inner cockpit parts will be 3d printed.

Thanks again Jeff!

Walker,

When you buy plans they usually have a few separate sheets of formers, ribs and various other shapes that are to be cut, to build, or help build, the aircraft you are making.

Cheers,
Jed

Sounds good.  When you are ready with your tutorial, why not become a full member here (LINK) and post it?

Jed,

Any specific model plans for a Corsair that you know of that have the sheet formers?

Jeff I will defiantly post our project when it is done.
