I have been lurking here for quite some time. Main thing I would like to say is that there is so much skill here it is unbelievable. You guys make it look so easy - I envy your skill sets. My name is Andy, I live in Phoenix, AZ (it's a dry heat). I have been out of RC for about 10 years now but am getting back into it. I have never built a a plane from a kit but have always wanted to. All of my experience has come from ARFs, which I can put together fairly well. I don't like to use the term build, because you really don't build anything with an ARF. Now ARF bashing, I believe, is something entirely different but it is still not building. In my opinion, if you build an ARF, you bought the wrong ARF. I am primarily interested in warbirds, and my first kit will hopefully be a Holman FW 190. I retired a couple of years ago from a long time of banging around in Abrams tanks. I look forward to learning from all of you and I hope someday to give something back to the site. If I ask a lot of seemingly dumb questions, it's because I am still learning as I go.
Andy

Hi Andy.
Welcome. I think this site generates a lot of lurkers. I had the same reaction as you when I joined - what you see here is incredible. Have fun.

Hey Andy - welcome to the site! You never know when your question might prompt a whole new way of doing things - when I used to teach (adult ed, AutoCAD) I would tell the class that the only dumb question is the one that does not get asked.

I taught tanks for about 10 years - you have to be very careful with some audiences with that statement. I had a 2LT ask me once if the main gun was over the back deck of the tank, because it looked shorter than the pictures on the internet. I said "No, the front of the hull was under the back of the turret and that was why it looked so short". He said " I thought that was it".......Yay, you might be a General some day........

I am right on the northern edge of Phoenix city limits (Carefree Highway. I moved here about 2 years ago so that I could attend MMI, which I graduated in May. I have flown a couple of warbird ARFs, a Hanger 9 Miss America and a Great Planes T-6 Texan. Other planes are an Ultra Stik, a Great Planes Shoestring, a Great Planes Super Stearman, an Ultimate Bipe. I have also done a little helicopter flying. I am currently finishing a WM Tempest, and I also have a WM FW 190A. I think they are a pretty good ARF, but time will tell how they hold together.
