Hi to all....i have been a lurker here for some time and have looked through most sections and been absolutely overawed by some of the scratch build threads!!!!!

So a question... as a first project i am contemplating construction of a true scale model of an A380 of about 7 meters wingspan with jet engines and working undercarrage and flaps etc. Do you all think this is a good project???

Really.....i was thinking of getting a 'Realflight' simulator to see if i have any hope of being able to fly model aircraft. Do you rate  Realflight....or is there something else/better????

Best Regards

Geoff

Geoff, Thanks for speaking up!

If this is truly a first project then I suggest you go with something simpler.  There are so many systems in that airplane it would make your head spin.  Build a kit or two or three to get acclimated and build up your tool supply, then a plans built or two - then on to your prize!

It would be kinda like giving your 16-year old son the keys to a Ferrari or Maserati and saying "Go learn how to drive".

You never know - so I tend to take things like that seriously!

Most sims will let you modify the parameters of a model.  So you need to find something similar to the A380 and do the research to figure out what size turbines, their thrust, an approximate weight, and so on.  Better to err on the heavy side than the light, so you are not surprised by the handling of the "real" model.
