This rare B-17 gives the citizens of the communities it visits a chance see how it was like so long ago. It ran off the end of the runway and over the hill. After thousands of volunteer hours and the guidance of Scott Royce, it flew again. 909 never saw service during WWII, the airframe that is. I lived close by and am a friend of Scott Royce. For modeling purposes it a fair subject. I was a member of the crew of Memphis Belle, the B17 used in the movie that came out in 1989. I traveled with it from Oct. 91 thru March of 92. It saw service in Europe as a CB17 and ended up as Curtis Lemays personal transport during Korea. The owner, David Tallichet had it converted from a "G" to an "F". All of the systems, bombing, gun and O2 worked. I was lucky enough to fly it (left seat) from Atlanta to Burmingham. I guess I have a soar spot when I see 909.
