Hey everyone, just found this great forum and decided to join the community. I'm cullen, I'm 15 years old and I have been flying since february. I am interested in 3D, warbirds, slope soaring, and balsa scratchbuilding. I'm joining to try to get better at scratchbuilding, because my first few builds have all looped under power. Anyways, hello everyone and I'm glad to be here. :)

Hi Cullen, this is indeed a great place for scale, you won't be disappointed.

As for looping under power (sounds like free flight?) there could be many many causes, like the relationship between the horizontal stabilizer and the wing, the airfoil of the wing and stabilizer, motor upthrust and on and on.

Once you have looked around a bit take a look at the site supporter program - that will give you a lot more access plus the ability to post photos of your work http://www.rcscalebuilder.com/page_display.asp?pid=5

Thanks jeff I will do that. :) and I figured out why my models were looping. They all had too much wingspan. My latest was a 48" motor glider with a 4 inch chord, and it flew well, (albeit a bit fast for my liking) when I cut the wingspan down to 40". Right now I am starting a De Havilland Chipmunk. I have guillows plans and I will have it scaled up to 44" wingspan and reprinted. I plane on using an Eflite Park 450 with an 11x5 Xoar propellor. Speed control will be an Eflite 30 amp pro, and I will use two nylon gear 9 gram parkzone servos for the ailerons, and two 16 gram metal gear servos for the rudder and elevator.

That sounds interesting - why not see if you can become a site supporter and post the build?
