Hello RCSB forum members. From the frozen tundra of northern New York State. (Almost Canada eh?)
After a moderate crash while landing my Dynaflite PT-19 14 years ago that broke the mainspar in the right wing & took off the right horizontal stab, life changes lead me away.
I am now nearing retirement & have some time on my hands W/several neglected or slightly bruised & partially built IMAA legal scale & sport scale airframes.
I started out W/a 92" Sr Telemaster ARF that I powered W/a Saito 150 hence my username. It really made a great trainer & I rebuilt it several times after minors mishaps & slowly reduced wing incidence & dihedrel until I had a knife edge capable Sr Telemaster. I finaly took it straight in @ WOT doing a split "S" when I misjudged the altitude.
I'm a died in the wool 4 stroke guy, never had a 2 stroke R/C aircraft engine & never will. I even have C&H ignition on 1 of my Saito 150s & also on a Saito 300 TTDP twin.
I'm itching to get a "round engine" to power an IMAA leagal sport scale Corsair. It will most likely be a Saito 450R3 as a 3 cylinder will be easier to convert to the new RCEXL ignition.(it is very sililar to the C&H systems)
I am slowly getting all my gear in order. I cleaned out my flight box yesterday & replaced the hearing aid batteries in my digital tachometer which now works. Surprisingly, my 12v gel cell in my flight box sprang back to life after a charge & the 9v drycell in my digital Rx/Tx pack tester voltmeter is still alive & well. My 6v fuel pump was locked up, but after pressure priming it W/some stale fuel to lube it up, it took right off.
All of my Ni-Cds are shot except for 1 TX pack that I bought new right after my crash that I never charged. Since charging it overnight, the pack seems to be holding charge well. I won't use it for actual flight duties, but for now it will work for getting things set up.
I have a NIB Saito 150 & 180. A saito .91 that seems to be AOK & my Saito 300 TTDP that has only been bench run seems fine too. Unfortunately, the 150 on my crashed PT-19 feels like it is full of gravel (I "put it up wet") & will need @ least a main bearing replacement. After I check the static ignition timing (I don't remember what it wads) it will be torn down completely. All of the engines will @ least have the back plates removed for bottom end inspection.
I hope to get back up to speed W/some help from forum members here that have kept up W/things while I was "away".
