Let's not turn this into a commercial for a charger. There are LOTS of GREAT chargers out there that do a good job and keep your batteries healthy. But you are right Rusty, the Sirius is a great charger.

Fast charging IS NOT good for batteries unless you have a charger that can regulate the charge (like the fore mentioned Sirius charger). However the basic physics of batteries give off heat as a by-product of charging and discharging. Heat DOES contribute to shortening the life of a battery. The more milliamperes you pump in it in a given time period the more heat that is produced.

My suggestion is to review some of the sites about batteries that do not have an agenda (i.e. selling chargers) such as Red's R/C Battery Clinic (http://www.rcbatteryclinic.com/).

 Mike,

I Never tried to turn it into a commercial for a charger. Was simply stating what a lot of people, including folks in our own club, didnt know until they were introduced to them. Again, wasnt plugging or advertising, but I dont see the harm in telling people you have had a good experience with a product, that doesnt facilitate advertising, I'm not affiliated or compensated by anyone. Those of us who have switched to these chargers are very impressed. Sorry if you read something into my posts, not my intention.

Rusty,

Nooo... I did think that at all. I was just trying to keep the thread ON TOPIC... Batteries not Chargers (which it was heading that way fast). Although.. I think I will make the next poll about chargers.

And I am sure everyone appreciates you sharing your experiences. I myself use all kinds of batteries and have enjoyed hearing everyones thoughts and input. Now back on topic.

Thanks!
Mike

For the past 12 years I have been using NiCads.  About seven years ago I went to 5 cell packs with out a reg.  I have had one pack go bad in this time.  I use the Litco Alpha 4 or the Hughes 4 port charger and charge the night before.  I usually need the extra weigth and now am thinking of using sub C nicads.  A123 look interesting but not if I need to add a reg.  My Multiplex 12 channel receivers will take two batteries and use the one with higher voltage.  I like to keep things as simple as possible.
