I have been mentoring several rookies in Club40, two are kids 15 years old or so. No understanding (and no interest in Understanding) the hows and whys of setting up the plane. Both are pretty good pilots, one was flying a plane with the elevator so far out of trim at full trim deflection it took a little fwd stick to fly level he kept telling his (AH) grandfather it wouldn't fly level. We got him sorted out and about half way through the day the grandfather left then we really made some progress. The only problem is that when the plane goes back to his Grand father he will "fix the plane" I kind of expect to be back to square one next time we go out
If don't nurture the youth we may see them go to some other interest with instant gratification.

I'm not sure what you call old but I'm 35 and love to build. I've got 2 boys (2.5 and 5) that love the planes and will no doubt join me in flying soon and yes they'll be taught how to build.

I'm about to start a JB 1/4 scale Moth Minor so stay tuned.

As a side though there is over 100 members in my club and the sad fact is there'd be a total of no more than 5-10 people that build. The rest are ARF fliers and have no interest in building. The amount of people that crash a plane and throw it away is amazing. I've take some so called write offs home, repaired them and then taken them back and flown them. The original owners are always astounded at that hahaha.
