This Plane was built by a good friend of mine, Paul Jarvis. Paul is a master builder and I was extremely pleased to end up with one of his builds. Unfortunately this plane had a mishap at a scale meet in Flagstaff several years ago, so I had to attempt to restore her to her original beauty. The gear was completely ripped out, nose completely broken off and cowling severely damaged. Here are a few pictures after structural repairs, and of the re-maiden yesterday. I will complete cosmetic restoration in the coming weeks. BTW, if anyone has a replacement canopy for this plane, I could use one, mine is a bit yellowed.

Nice finish on the P-47 Tim. I have the same plane awaiting refinishing and was thinking of a bare aluminum finish like that. Is that FliteMetal?

Paul, It is FliteMetal, painstakingly cut into individual panels and each rivet individually pressed into it. Thanks for the compliment Tim

Paul,
Take a look at the Klass Kote aluminum. Sprays wonderful, looks great. ....warning.... smells like ..... spray outdoors with lots of ventilation.
A couple of pictures of Klass Kote aluminum on my Arado 96b from Anderson plans.

Flyin Tim
It’s gorgeous. Looks like great flying weather for this time of the year.
Have you thought of using your canopy and making a plaster mold, then make a new canopy. Just a thought. Rex

Tim, I've seen several ads for FliteMetal.. There is probably no way to really answer this, but purely from a subjective standpoint is it fairly heavy in comparison to a paint finish?
Thanks,
Mark

The person who is best qualified to answer that would be Ed, the proprietor of Flite Metal & very enthusiastic modeler in his own right. I’m going to be using FM on my Guillow’s Mustang to be done up as Big Beautiful Doll. It’ll be for my daughter who is a Mustang groupie ever since I had her posed next to (late) Bob Hoover when she was ten years old.
My guess is the weight difference would be negligible. But that’s coming from me.

I have a yellow razorback painted and this one in Flite Metal. Both have G62's and are built almost exactly the same...…..weight is very close. I would not consider the difference to be any issue whatsoever.
