Hi Again Lurkers,
I thought while awaiting paint dry I would show a few pics on the build of the Lysander all those years ago.
Wings
As the wing is double trapezoid in its plan view two blocks of foam were cut using three ply templates. One block would be cut up to produce the ribs of the outer panel and the other of the inner.
These templates were used as patterns for the hard balsa ribs.
Tailplane
Fin and Rudder,
Fuselage

All metal work, oleos, hubs legs, etc., were made to plan by Alan (BB) and his late son, Steve. Wonderful job.
More tomorrow if you want me to continue.
Cheers
Ken

You are right, Martin it is exxy over here too, but it is the very best of epoxies. That is why the RAAF used it to glue together the F111s. Mark you, the F111s were deployed in tough Australian conditions. Give you that.

I was an ECM tech on F111 E models here in the USAF, so was my wife! Y'all flew them a good bit longer than we did. Ken on the wing pix what does the servo that drives the nyrods do? LE slats or well what? I can see they drive a belcrank but its lost beyond that. Doc

Hi Doc
Yes, the RAAF flew the F111s for ever ... couldn't afford anything newer !
Yes, the bell cranks operate the slats. They operated well, but added nothing to the already STOL capabilities of the aircraft. They are still in situ but the slats are screwed shut.

We did do some extensive mods to keep them current, PAVETACK, AUP, AGM-142. RAAF was one of the most inovative in the use of composte bonding and repair techniques, carry through box repair was one.
Used to be able to get the good epoxy when I was based at AMB, quick bike ride over to hanger 410 . . .

Thanks for going to the trouble of showing some original build pics. Wing attachment very instructive for this and a few other designs that present a similar challenge.
