I decided to finally try and scratch build some ski's for my Navy Cub. I followed this MAN article and it was pretty easy. I made two sets so I could put one on my Four Star 120 as well.

Link to the article https://www.modelairplanenews.com/easy-scratch-built-skis-ge t-ready-for-snow/

I used 1/8" ply for the skis and 1/4" ply for the spines.

I rough sketched some templates

Then cut them out on my band saw.

Then I kurf cut the tips

Then I glued the spines to the skis

I was able to bend the tips with my hands and glue them in place

I then added the mounting brackets.

I made some 1/4" hardwood mounts on the fuse to connect the forward and aft limiting cables. I also added cup hooks for rubber bands. A #64 rubber band works well.

Here you can see how I rigged it. With the weight off the skis, the ski tips are about a 10° AOA.

Then I spray painted them with Rustolium 2x. I used Minwax semigloss polyurethane spray and then waxed the bottom with floor wax.

Mounted and ready to hit the slopes. This was super fun and only took a couple of hours.

I'll report back after a flight.

Wow, it flies so well. The skis are amazing. Floats are way more drag. What an epic crisp MN morning. Got coffee, cold fingers and my Saito started right up with a flip. In the words of the great Ice Cube "it was a good day".

10/10 would recommend. Video up soon.

I had an Aunt and Uncle that lived on white bear lake. Bohon was their name. He has passed she is the last of the greatest generation, now in her 90's. She told me a lot about my mom that I never heard from her.......
Floats and skis are fun!
