I didn't start a build thread on this plane because it was too far along when I joined here. Been a long build. Started it, moved to something else, got back to it and so on for several years. Now it is almost complete, cockpit kit, half gear doors and some other details left. It will be clear coated shortly but I wouldn't mind a little feedback on panel lines rivets and weathering before I do. Thanks for looking and for any feedback.

Thanks Peter,
I'm starting to get some feedback that more dirtiness and weathering is appropriate for this bird since it is a replica of the actual fighter. Any thoughts?
Thanks,
Tim

Does it look like the doc's?
That's the real test.
If you don't have docs do what you think is right..... Its easy to overdo the weathering

Subtle is better in my opinion. These planes had ground crews to look after them. Normally they were relatively cleaned and cared for.

Thanks Fellas, all the input really helps. Docs on this original plane are all black and white and very grainy. I can copy all of the panel lines, rivets, colors, nomenclature and graphics pretty well but the actual plane is hard to replicate from the old photos. I don't want to use other models as a reference because they did what I am doing.....guessing. I am going to "dirty" it up a bit....it looks too clean to be in theatre. I was a crewcheif in the Army on helicopters and the working birds never looked "show" quality as I think my model kinda looks. Needs to look more like a working machine. I'll post some more pics after a bit more work before clear coat and get some more comments.......I invite all the criticism I can get, all it does is help IMO.
Thanks again,
Tim

Look around RCSB there is a CARF P-47 that looks pretty good.
Pictures aren't always the best thing to judge your airplane and in the end make it the way you want. If I were to say anything here are my comments based on the pictures you have posted and no reference to your documents.
Gun area too dirty, Panels/rivet line mid fuse too obvious, tail too clean and rivet lines too obvious.
If you are going to compete in scale contest match the doc's!

Just a few more details and cockpit to finish......I got the rivets panel lines and weathering as good as I can do with the technique I used. Clear coat is satin finish but I think a flat finish may have been better. I'll post final pics and maiden flight pics in a few weeks. Thanks for all the feedback Fellas.
