I usually hit the internet first.This usually joggs my mind about
articles and or books I may have.Between the two,I can usually assemble
enough information to get a good start on a project.Not being close to
museums which house what I like to model,closest being about a 20 hour
drive,the net has become a good research tool.

I voted for magazines because I'm always on the lokout for something interesting at the local newsagent or model shop. With the choice of so many magazines I can't afford to buy everything so a quick browse tells me it's a keeper or not.

My answer is from everywhere. There isn't a "Most" area for research. You can never have too much information, and all is equally valuable.
I also buy a good brand plastic kit of the chosen aircraft as this can be useful to scale from and also to see 3D shapes like wing fairings.
A trip to the fullsize plane, if available, is also a must. But one thing I've learned is not to build from a 3-View alone. Cross check as many dimensions from the 3-View with measurements taken from the real plane and also the plastic kit. All your reference sources will be produced from someone elses research, and not all may be 100% accurate. By checking against different sources, you can improve the accuracy of your build.

I guess the answer to the question also will change depending on the subject chosen. No one source has a monopoly on information and a common plane may have information on every source. Alternatively, a one off home build plane may only be able to be researched via a visit to see the actual plane.

With me it really depends on the subject i want to model, if the subject is available locally then i would get 3-views with cross sections from either internet or books and then go out and photograph it from all possible angles, this way while building if my 3-views are not for that specific variant or model, least i have my picture documentation to gather the needed information from, then again word to mouth also, you never know if there are pilots or ground crew personal you run into who have/had actually worked on the aircraft. So i am not sure what to add in the poll.
