Agreed that the 1.20 will have all it can do to haul around 23 pounds but man what an outstanding build otherwise.  Sparky and I think alike, the Moki 1.80 or 2.10 would be my first choice to replace the OS.

Thanks for the kind comments folks, Checked the weight again today, wings 6lb , fus.9.5 lb.
I'll need to check measurements for pos.  engine replacement, not sure on the landing gear and as the company who made them for B.T. planes, I'll have to try and source some others.
Worse case scenario, will be making another fus. as per the plans.
Food for thought.

Before you go to the effort of building a new fuse I would try a fit the upgraded engine to the existing fuse.

I agree with Sparky.  The Typhoon has substantial area and a thick airfoil and may carry the weight much better than you expect.  I know a lot of guys were flying the ESM Typhoon, which is just a hair smaller, at 20+ pounds and were reporting that performance was good.  I had a somewhat smaller Sea Fury that flew very well with a wing loading of over 45 ounces per square foot and that was without the Tiffie's thick wing section.  It very well could surprise you.

Congratulations on a superbly finished Tiffy.

From what I can remember my fiberglass fuselage weighs in at around 370'ish grams excluding the internal structure. That's around .81 pounds.

Typhoons have a long tail moment and it has to be kept light.

Is anyone who bought a fuselage from me willing to weigh it and post the weights here, as a benchmark exercise.

Keith if you do build another fuselage please let us know what the weight turns out to be.

I've had 3 ESM Typhoons.

I had a Zenoah G-38 in it. Today I would have put a Saito FG-40 in it.

The FG-40 is a four-stroke. It turned out that with the G-38, the muffler became the biggest hazzle.

You could fly extremely slow with it, and have the finest of landings.

Even though it was heavy.

The biggest problem was to find the right place for the CG.
It was far too long forwards from the ESM plans, and when I finally got it as far back as it needed to be, I could land it slowly and graceously.

Mine weighted 8.2 kg and CG was at 10.5 cm.

I used the Sierra gear for the ESM Typhoon. Fantastic gear.

The aft of the ESM Typhoon was extremely thinly moulded. The fuse flexed if you tried to hold it in the wrong places.
It needs to be very thin to avoid too much weight, but should have been lined with some foam on the insides to stiffen it.

Thanks again for your input guys. I've looked at the various replacement engine options, dimensions/weight etc , and I think without too much retro fitting, I'm going with a zenoah 38. One reason being the 38 weighs 4lb, this is usable ballast , and will hopefully get me out of the balance predicament.
I will be looking to get the engine fairly soon, but waiting to see if a second hand one becomes available with carb bend and trumpet.
Kwik, do you by any chance have any pics of your Typhoon with the zenoah set-up, if so could you post pics.
