Hello everyone,

I´d like to introduce my 1/5.4 Dh Mosquito PR XVI.

Wingspan 3.05 m, two Zenoha 38 ccm, 24.2 kg (wet).

It´s a superb flyer, uncomplicated to fly (if no engine quits) and safe to land...

The pictures were taken by Richard Crapp at the ESC Scale Competition in Belgium last year.

All pics by courtesy of Richard. Thanks a lot again!

Klaus

Beautiful! Was this built from a plan? The retracts look great!

Regards,

John

Gentlemen,

thanks for the compliment, I do appreciate it!

The plan was from Richard Rawle Aviation in England. Unfortunately, it had to be revised and redesigned for many components which did not really fit to each other. The retracts are homemade and operated by air. All parts where designed according to the original retracts and then fabricated by milling and turning etc.

Best wishes

Klaus

Great looking plane and quite large too!
How much weight did you have to add to the nose?
Do you have any building pictures?
How much effort did you do to keep the weight down in the tail?
Have you had an engine failure in flight?
Nice to see it made it back!
Sparky

Additional weight to the nose was something between 600 g or 900 g, I can´t really remember.

Unfortunately, I don´t have any building pictures. But here are some pictures of the cockpit before the canopy was mounted and a closer view of the retracts.

Building a Mossie you have to put much effort to keep the weight down in the tail because the centre of gravity is just 23 cm from the leading edge. So, you need light balsa, you need to make the tail wheel from ply...etc.

I haven´t had any engine failure yet, and I hope that it won´t happen during all my next flights...

Klaus
