Wanted to try my hand at RC scale for decades so about time for me to get with it.

Also retired from large aerospace company about 5 years ago.  Been building models for over 50 years and I'm deep into my second attempt at scale - a 1/6 scale Val that I drew up in 2018.  Up til now it's required pretty much standard modeling practices but detailing is all new stuff for me.  Just discovered RCSB and can already see that's it's an excellent resource for those inevitable how to's.

First attempt at scale was a Proctor Nieuport 11 that's safely hanging in the man-cave.

Welcome to the RCSB site. I second to Jeff, would like to see pics of your Nieuport.

Insofar as the Val, are you intending to detail both exterior & interior? How deep do you wish to go? Speaking from my own experience, detailing is an art form in its own right & it’s never really finished. It just keeps going & going. The rewards are great, to say nothing for the eye-candy.

Have any docs or pics of the Val you intend to build? As you can see we’re a curious group.

I'm putting a lot of detail into the Val.  It has a really messy cockpit so I just plan to do major items; seats, panel, stick and a big beautiful compass that sits on a deck between the crew inside the birdcage.

The Nieuport looks great! The Val looks like a truly good model in just sitting there. Great looking propeller hub. You make it? Bought? Good detail as it is... Very nice indeed.

And you say you “... drew it up?” That’s one heck of a great looking glassed fuselage. You made the molds for both the fuse & cowl?

Made glass molds for fuse, cowl, landing gear spats, bomb & prop blades.  Modeled prop hub in cad and fabricated it with a 3D printer.  Printed quite a few non-structural details for this model that way.  We're lucky around here that a local library has a maker-space and encourages us to come in and use the printers.

Started the project by creating multi-sheet drawing of the model.  This sheet is the LH outboard wing panel.  Then I've been red-lining changes on the drawings as they're discovered during the build.  Now I need to learn from you guys how to simulate panel lines, fasteners, weathering, etc since that stuff is unique to scale modeling.
