Reuben:
Great job on the corrugated surfaces. I’ll be doing two Boeing biplanes; one is to be a F4B-4 & the other to be the -1 or early version. They’ll be more modest in size: the -4 to be apprx 1/12th scale & the -1 to be 1/9th scale. Both have corrugated flying surfaces. I am contemplating on using Evergreen’s plaststrut half-round tubings glued into the surfaces & laid side-by-side. Your thoughts?

Gary, that'd be an awesome project! More for the modeling aspect than flying? If it were me (being a radial engine snob haha) if I were to go to the work of finely detailing one of those, I'd HAVE to make it large enough at least to throw in even one of those UMS 7 cylinder 35cc radial engines. But that's just me :)

Awesome resource this website is for sure. Don't regret the membership fee already.

Reuben

Fabulous detail in the mold What does the pile of unassembled glass and canopy weigh?
I think I know the perfect light weight aluminum covering material for it...

Sabre:
Thanks for the reference to Freeman Wax.   Good source.

Cody:
This site gets better & better as you go through & more members chime in. Before you know it, you’ll have a half-dozen “vultures” sitting in your shoulders vicariously enjoying your build.

I’m also a radial guy ( lucky you ).    I fabricated a small dummy radial engine for my small Guillow’s PT-17 & it ended up getting published in Electric Flight magazine, sister publication to Model Airplane News. If I were to do it again, I would use PVC pipes from local hardware store. I would obtain several pieces of different sizes to match the cylinder diameters. The threads would make excellent cooling fins. I only have common household tools for all my modeling projects but lots of imagination.

You’ll see some guys whose modeling work areas resemble a full-blown high-tech assembly area straight out of “Silicon Valley” with vacuum form machine, CNC, individual vacuum systems to suck up saw dust at every work station, 3-D printer, band saw, belt sanders, every hand tool imagined, stereo, tv, refrigerator, & the whole work shop is about 2,000 square feet with a mezzanine to boot!

Then you’ll see guys whose work shops are converted garages with all manners of stuff crammed in every nook & cranny such that you expect to see Pinocchio peeking out from under the wooden sawhorse.

Cheers,

Gary

Cody, welcome.

Another source for plans is called Outer Zone.  The plus with them is no log in required and they often have plans the others don't.  In this case Mark Frankel's T-34 at 99" span.  Here's a link:

https://outerzone.co.uk/search/results.asp?keyword=T-34

If you can't get plans printed locally I can turn you on to a guy I use in New England.  He's a modeler and does excellent print work for a reasonable price and quick turn around times.

As a reference point relative to hearing the actual build issues I recommend you contacting Mike Barbee or Bob Patton if you are interested in the reality of plan choice. Mike is probably going to have a TON of workarounds and suggestions of "modern" alternatives vs. the plans and accompanying assembly directions of any plan. Mike probably has more experience with 34's than anyone else... Next would be Bob Patton...

Sheesh!  The size of that thing....

Approaching the point where it would be simpler to just rent a hanger at the local FBO.

Maybe cheaper too!  :)
