Subject Seeking with Mitch Baker
Project Credible Chase
1970/1971 the US wanted a STOL (short take-off and landing) type, armed gunship, counter-insurgency, aircraft. Fairchild was licensed to build the PC-6 Porter as the AU-23A Peacemaker by USAF or UV-20 by the US Army. 35 were built and eventually all were sold to Royal Thai Air Force. The Army still used 2 UV-20s in West Berlin during the 70's and 80s.
The AU-23A had either a single 20mm Gatling or 2 7.62 mini-guns. With 4 wing hard points and 1 fuselage hard point, the aircraft could carry additional bombs, rocket pods or napalm.
The PC-6 Porter by Pilatus has been around since 1961. One of the most versatile aircraft in the world. It has/is used for parachuting, photography, float plane, off snow and ice with skis. Used as a tow plan, can get two gliders up very quickly. Fire plane with a 340 gallon water tank installed. Can carry a 2,200lb payload.
Modeling: Lots of choices for scheme and configuration. Many countries have used or are still using the PC-6 in both military and non-military roles.
