Hi Ed
Captured Zeke is a unique "theme" for this great fighter.

For engine cowl, after drilling and cutting holes, I used Dremel to "draw" the panel lines.
Then one layer of primer and aluminum color.
When color dried, I used a wet cloth to apply a thin water layer on the surface. Immediately I throwed some salt(medium size ) and let it dry for a while. Then a single layer of matt black color was sprayed.
The cowl dried for more or less three hrs and then using a soft cloth, I started to remove the salt. Finally I sprayed a mixture of diluted gray/black color for extra weathering.

I can only see one error...

You made too great an effort to make the skin smooth. They were skinned with thin aluminum which
was said to krinkle like a crushing soda can when the A6M2 made its takeoff run and tight maneuvers.
Of course this is contrary to what modelers seek in replicating a metal surface.

Your Zeke looks great...after 20+ years! When I read your post that it did not require additional weight
to balance I was reminded how light weight mine was after sitting in rafters of a garage under Houston's
blazing sun for several summers before I acquired it.

The Planes Of Fame "Zeke" appeared
in the above color scheme
at a CAF airshow here in Houston shortly
after its recertification. I believe the above image was featured on a CAF calendar.

Hi Ed
I do agree with you. I have seen some fellow modellers to give some the  of stressed skin  appearance. I tried to do the same but in limited scale and not  successful I would say.

Actually...there is a simple way to achieve this. However it would read like an advertisement

Great to see a Royal Zero! She's coming along nicely.

I had one that I flew for a few years when I was MUCH younger. It was a great flying plane. Now thanks to Flapsdown I have a new original kit on the shelf ready to build after all these years.
