A big thanks and shout out to the folks that made the Hoosier Scale Classic a success.
I hope some one can post pictures. The weather was cooperative with mostly light winds from the north it did get into the 90's on Sunday but low humidity made it survivable!
So here is one for all the armchair scale judges:
We had a foamy class so I thought up a unique and novel maneuver......
We had the E-Flight Carbon Cub 80" span plane. And then I had a E-Flight Ka-8 Glider.......
We did aerotow! I'm not sure we can claim a first but in the world of fake news why not?
Both planes are designed to do it so it was just a matter of practice.
After all whats the worst that can happen?
After discussion with the CD we decided this would be a flight maneuver and what they were judging was the release at the end of the tow to altitude.
Ignore the glider.... Kind of hard to do.
So we hooked the glider and Tow plane together and placed them out of the runway. Takeoff with the glider in tow a (slow) climbing 180 degree turn to maybe 150' and on the down wind side of the flight pattern we did the glider release. The glider was piloted by Clint to a safe landing and while he was doing that the remainder of the flight maneuvers were completed with the tow line in trail.
Even better my team mate Clint and I each had Carbon Cubs of our own and we each did the aerotow maneuvers with us alternating glider pilot duties.
I did hook a little lift on one flight but I figured it was really best to pop the spoilers and land vacating the airspace.

Well Clints First flight with the tow plane in round one he got really aggressive on the power and we broke the tow line! I guess at least 45 pounds of force was required, I told our CD Dale Arvin this was the most likely way to have a crash and we eventually figured out how to do it with only a few issues.
I was so tempted to fly off when I hooked a thermal but defered and landed, so the others as i would be right in the middle of the show!
FUN

After 40 years of competitive flying, i had never seen this before. It was refreshing and interesting to see something new and different in scale competition. Fake news or not, i would bet it was a first. Good going fella's!
