This one started life as a Top Flite GS P-51 ARF. It was crashed and rebuilt and I acquired it last fall. I don't know about you but I'm bored to dead with the "Big Beautiful Doll" scheme. My choice for the makeover was "Lady Alice". I love the OD over Aluminum and the bright stripes and colors on the nose and tail. I also hate weathering models and doing a "modern" P-51 was a bonus. What was left of the original covering was stripped off and replaced with Hobbyking Bright Aluminum and OD film. This stuff is a well kept secret...it's so much better than Monokote or just about any other film covering I've found. The engine is a DLE 55RA, retracts are Robart pneumatics. For simplicity, I left the tail wheel fixed. I may go back and add a retract TW later.
The first flight was last weekend and the plane flys great. The landing was a bit rough. The retracts would not extend and lock. One leg came down and one stayed in the wing. The air tank had vibrated and rotated in flight and twisted the air line shut. The landing was done with half flaps and the only damage was a broken prop.

... and yes, the HK film is excellent covering material. I've used it on several projects over the last 6years or so. Reminds me of how Monokote use to be a couple decades back

Hey Charlie! Just ran across this thread. I did enjoy watching you beat up the Sometimers field this weekend with Lady Alice. Please have a look my build thread.
