Can't believe I was actually able to see this project through to the end !I went to England ( Old Warden Airfield ) in 1998 to watch it fly and my model is a replication of this plane on that day !!...it has since been refurbished and repainted.
Started in 1994 while living in Switz., 6 yrs in storage until I got resettled back in the states and got my workshop set up again. 1/4 Scale original DB model was SE5 (not an SE5a) semiscale...lots of modifications..basically threw most of the material away and scratch built most everything but the basic bones. Features: Laser 200 V-twin four stroke (crammed in) but is perfect for this model at 25lbs. AUW. I stopped counting building hrs after over 3000 spent !!! Front grill is fully functional (over 300 parts here alone) and works perfectly. Gautschi Aeroscale authentic profile flying wires and tail assembly. The Lewis machine gun took 80 hrs I remember.... I've had two nice flight so far...maiden was totally anti-climactic...long take off but flew like on rails! I do need to rework the aileron mechanics, each aileron has its own servo but there is too much slop in the linkage so so I will be replacing those with a more direct drive I.R.F. Mechanical system.
Trying to get her dialed in for the upcoming Scalemasters Qualifying events here in Nor. Cal...the Champs will be held in late Sept. at Woodland Davis, CA....just hope to survive and fly well.....
Hard to believe this thing actually flies after so many years of dreaming !!
