I have been collecting parts and working on this one for several years in between building other planes. I finally got it test flown a couple of days ago. I have to say, this one flew PERFECT! It needed NOT ONE CLICK OF TRIM in any direction! That was a first for me! It weighs 35# and the G-62 was plenty of power. The only problem on the test flight was the throttle linkage. When I went to land it wouldn't go down below a real fast idle so it touched at about 50 MPH! I ran out of runway and it flipped over in the tall weeds at the end of the runway and crunched the top of the rudder. I was happy, though, that it flew so well right off the board! The throttle and rudder have since been fixed and she's ready to go again. A guy there took a bunch of nice in-flight pictures but I'm still waiting to receive them.
Jim

Nice job, very good looking bird!
Did you install a kill switch? I consider it as cheap insurance in case anything goes wrong.

I don't have a kill switch that can be activated from the Tx. I tried the throttle cut function but it didn't get the idle down low enough. The throttle linkage has been changed and it works much better now. Jim

Ah, I see. For redundency I always have two ways to kill the engine. Learned many years ago when I had to circle untill I ran out of fuel.
The only one that worries me is the dreaded dead stick. Not much we can do after that happens. Destroyed a nice plane once because I had to come in too hot. Options were a crowd of people or the tree. Tried to miss both but I swear that tree had magetic forces!
My wife spent many hours hand painting the pilot, I still have him to this day. Never put him in another plane though, didnt like his flying skills!!

Any Gas engine with a electronic ignition system gets a Kill sw in my airplanes. Too much shaking and things move. A lose motor can change the geometry on the throttle linkage so you cant shut it down. I have seen that at least four times, two planes were lost because of this issue. One was when the engine went to high idle too slow to fly too fast to land.
I haven't lost a plane from this I can learn from others mistakes!

I guess I'd use the choke servo to kill if needed. Never needed to kill a running engine, usually wished it would stay running about 30 seconds more! Ha
Very nice F4U Jim, I am looking forward to another Giant Scale Corsair myself one day. They really fly nice and look cool on final with full flaps and gear down. Nice job on the muted/flat finish.
Post the inflight photos when you get them.

Here's a video from a couple days ago, taken with a cell phone camera. It's actually the third flight...not the maiden flight. The throttle is working correctly now and the plane slows down nicely on landing. If it looks like the tail is dragging after the landing it's because the tail wheel and it's yoke fell off somewhere out in the boonies! (I had to order another yoke from Robart.) I also scared myself a little trying to do a big round loop. Jim https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nmN7KhT6NAI
