Hi Cliff,

Welcome to RCSB.

The N11's rigging is fairly straight forward: Two landing wires from the top of the cabane struts to the bottom of the "V" and two flying wires from a point near the lower wing leading edge to the top of the V.  There are also cross-bracing wires on the front of the undercarriage and between the forward cabane struts.

A google search for Nieuport 11 will turn up hundreds of images showing the rigging.

Many thanks mate. I can’t call you Abufletcher. I note you are in Japan? My olderson has spent many years in Japan and is totally fluent. He passed his Japaese Uni entrance while he was there and did it in Japanese literature. In fact I believe he inherited my brains, thereby leaving me with none! Anyway, thanks for what you’ve said and I’ll go further into Google tomorrow. My kind regards, Cliff

My name's Don, but many people here just called me "Abu."  I've taught at a university in Japan for the past 20 years...yet have somehow avoided learning more than a minimal amount of Japanese.   My kids all went to Japanese public schools while they were in Japan and so are quite fluent.

By the way, are the rigging wires on your model meant to be functional or are they just for show?

A few years ago, I built one of the Flair "Legionnaires" kits (in Imperial Russian colors) which is a sport scale version of the Nieuport 17.  Even though functional rigging was not technically required it did add significant strength to the wings.

Thank you Matz. Those are wonderful and clear pics. Easy to follow all the rigging and anchor points. I am now keen to get to that part of the build. The model is a kit from BUSA and I’m not intending it to be a true scale. It’s just a weekend flyer that looks interesting. I’ll be 76 in a few months and I still have a DB Sport Se5a and aMick Reeves 1/4 Camel to build before It’s too late. Those two I’ Really put effort into. Kind regards, Cliff

Hello Cliff,
I build only models that have flown in the original bad or even never.

Greetings

Cliff,

Welcome to the site.  Abu and I met on this site and, though we've never met in person, we've become close friends.  So, you'll never be alone.  I'm 69 going on 45, acting like 30 going on 12.  I've never grown up.  My goal is to be a nuisance to my kids & wife.  To that end, I think I'm doing quite well.  Like Don, I've built a Nieuport 17 about 40 years ago from a VK kit.  Turned out very nice.  If an S.E.5 is on the horizon, may I suggest you consider Don's S.E.5?  He's done an incredible job!
