Well, I tried a full print after updating the back side of the wheel.  It became clear that in order to get a good clean print on both the front and back, I'll need to print the wheel in two halves.

Here's the photos of the back half of the wheel.

Personally, I think it looks a lot better in person.

Cheers,

Scott

I think it looks awesome and I don't see anything that a little bit of clean up wouldn't take care of.  That's just the nature of 3d printing at the moment, even with the best of equipment.

Hi Chad,  Yea, there's a little more cleanup.  The camera really highlights the defects.  I'm now printing a front half.  Should be done about 3 am.  I'll see in the morning, then I'll glue the two halves together.

Cheers,

Scott

WOW...

I want 2 of whatever you come up with...

In 1: 5.333 scale, of course...

That would be about a 40 hour print . . .  per wheel.

I tried printing out the wheel using Moldlay.  The filament is a bit of a disappointment to me.  It's much higher temp and a far tougher material than I was expecting.

I just ordered some wax filament this morning.  We'll see how that works out.  If I get a good wax print, I'll see what the local wax casting company can do.  I had a talk with them today on the technical aspects.  I will probably eliminate the slots for the disk brakes (which gets covered up anyway) and reduce the undercuts on the undersides of the front and back faces where they meet the rim.  Those will affect the look of the wheel minimally.  Also the axle hole will be eliminated.  The final wheels will need a post process to drill them out.
Don, PM sent.

Cheers,
Scott

I got the wax filament in today.  All I've been able to do was to take a small piece and melt it.  It sure seems like machinable wax.  I'm looking forward to doing a print.  Unfortunately, I won't be able to do a proper test until Sunday.  I can't wait to see how it does.

Well, I took a little time this evening to setup the wax filament.  I'm starting my first test, printing the front of the Corsair wheel.  The first layer went down better than any other print I've done ever.  The print is on the 5th layer.  I've bumped up the speed by 25% and it is looking great.  If this continues to perform like this, I will become a big proponent of this filament.  Anyone wanting to do lost wax castings will want this stuff!

Nozzle temp  135
Bed temp       65
Layer height     0.08mm
Nozzle dia.       0.25mm
Print speed    35.0mm
Fan         &nb sp;     75-100%
shells               3

Cheers,

Scott

Having problems with bed adhesion.  Will have to wait until Sunday to try again.  Detail comes out great.

Cheers,
Scott
