I am in Florida on vacation with the family. I have managed to wrestle a day or two at Top Gun 2017.
Who is going, it would be great to say hi, any Brits competing this year??

Still thinking about which day/s to attend. And which lenses to take I am hoping to get pics and a bit of a write up in the magazine I scribble for (UK title RCM&E, USA title RC Model Aeroplane)

Cheers
Danny

I won't be making it there this year, but it is always a great time!  If you have only 2 days, Best days are usually Friday and Saturday.

Friday they are still doing static judging, so there are lots tables filled with cool planes set up in static mode, versus flying mode.  Then on Sat/Sun some of the other major main flying categories start, and the final rounds of the earlier in the week rounds battle it out, (and static is over)

Don;t forget to have an ice cream from the icecream cart while looking at cool models in the florida sun!

Wish I could be there!  Have fun.

Matt

Thanks Matt, I am really looking forward to the event. I hadn't thought of the static, I was at the World Champs in Marmande a few years ago and static was a very tense time......difficult to get close to the models.

Cheers
Danny

you can't get very close when the models are on the tables, but often many the guys form a line to get to the table 20 min before their static time, so you sneak a bit closer look at the time often...but not too close...lol

Hi Danny, check out the Mike Barbee and Frank Null team entry they are flying a king air 90-c twin engine electric it is powered by 2 Kontonik engines that are geared 4/1 and have a soft start as if it is the real engine spin ups no speakers are needed for sound as the engines have there own whine sound to them since they are geared. they are fueled with 4 5000mah  Venom batteries each nacelles they do sound like turbines when the are wound up.  the paint scheme is a navy heritage paints.  this bird took Mike 2 years to build in fine detail and really is a must see and by the way the engines are made in Germany along with the 3 blade adjustable propellers. i wish i could be down there to watch it fly so get over to mikes tent and say hello an tell him Carl up north sent you..  oh yea it shouldn't be hard to find the bird is gray with yellow wings with a 155"WS

Hi Danny,

I will be there on Friday and Saturday. I agree with Matt those are the best days. It will be hot (warm for me, I've lived in Florida most of my life), be sure to dress light, drink plenty of water, use sun screen and wear a hat.

Bill

Thanks Bill and Carl, I have been following Mike's King-Air and saw the maiden flight vids. It looks awesome and definitely one that I want to see. And drinking lots of water sounds very sensible to me!

Cheers
Danny

Danny,

A fellow southerner adding to what Bill said, wear light weight and light colored clothing (dark colors turn you into a radiator), cannot stress staying hydrated enough, and don't get in a hurry going anywhere. Take your time and enjoy yourself.

Had planned on being there this year but will be in Chicago that week for work. Enjoy your time there pal.
