I just finished up my most recent diversion...a Pietenpol from Steven's Aero...LINKY...
This isn't Big Scale.
This isn't Show Scale.
This is Scale for the Fun of it.
It's only about a 24" wing span.
I saved a little weight by using hand-made spoke wheels from THESE GUYS...the tires are balsa:
And they weigh close to nothing:
Weight is everything on a plane like this, so every gram counts. In the end...the all-up weight came in at 50g:
I absolutely love these little Stevens Aero kits. I've never seen laser cutting so crips, nor have I seen such perfect wood selection. Everything fits together with absolute perfection...and everything you see here comes from Stevens. The radiator and engine/exhaust are all part of the kit, as are the pilot figures. The only change I made was the wheels.
Should be a great little flyer. This is the 3rd Stevens kit I've finished. The other 2 were just as perfect to build...and they both fly great. I can't recommend them highly enough.
