The only problem I've had with the fiberglass spinner was today and it was my bad. I cut the prop slots too close. The prop was rubbing and chipped the spinner.

The reason I ask is that I have a scratch built 1/4 Steve Wittman big 'Bonzo' (as opposed to his little F1 job that came later) languishing in the corner and it has a similar style spinner that I'd like to duplicate. That's the only thing holding me back. How did Reeves fasten the spinner? I had a BUSA Bristol that flew naked, i.e., without the needed spinner. The spinner really makes your airplane!

Michael,

There is a plywood mounting plate attached inside the spinner about 75% toward the rear of the spinner. I drilled six holes thru the plywood plate that matched the DA100. The plywood is sandwiched between two aluminum plates also drilled with the six holes. The prop is between the rear plate and the crank shaft of the engine.

I thought about making a stainless spinner. Ebay has six quart stainless mixing bowls that look like a perfect shape and diameter (11") for about $5. I was going to sliver solder a 1/16" thick stainless mounting plate inside the mixing bowl.

Thanks, Jay! Explanation makes total sense to this dimwit! I remember the wing root cutouts causing strange flying behavior on my BUSA version so I covered them with clear film which helped tremendously. Have you noticed any problems? The above pic is a great one!

Flies like a trainer. Slow rolls, loops, wing overs. It's the first maiden I've flown and didn't touch a trim.
